Massanés graduated in painting and mural techniques at Barcelona’s Escola Massana. Universitat de Barcelona, Faculty of Art History. He spends a few years working and performing engraved printing workshops at Tristan Barbarà Edicions. Formally, his work has evolved from approaches which attempted to reconcile figuration and abstraction, that is, to incorporate images and figures in two dimensional planes without reduce them to lines or flat shapes, but a more orthodox configuration: three-dimensional spaces in which the discourse of objects, figures and senses unfolds. He maintains writing and graphic signs, superimposing these items to the three-dimensional structure of the work to create a fourth dimension as both formal sense. While these graphics now are no longer signs which act as symbols in a grammar of informal juxtapositions, but expanding the repertoire of languages that are listed in his pieces.
